Double Dragon Neon Coming Soon! | Video Game Blog, Video ...

Live the code, the code of the Dragon! Easily one of the best, if not the best brawler games of all time, Double Dragon is being rebooted by WayForward Studios (Contra 4, BloodRayne: Betrayal) and is coming to PSN and XBLA, in the form of Double Dragon Neon very soon.? In this game, whether you played in the Arcade or on the NES (co-op is limited in the first game), you got a buddy and said ?Hey, let?s play some Double Dragon!? and there you both were, beating up random thugs, to eventually lead up to the ?Shadow Master? as Billy and Jimmy Lee.

Double Dragon III: Yeah?they screwed this one up?

It seems like it?s going to be the exact same as the NES game, but with better graphics. Considering how influential these games are in the beat ?em up genre of gaming, I don?t see this as a bad thing. Could they have added some stuff, sure, but is it really?necessary??At a proper price point, this could prove to be a great game to just?call a buddy over?text a buddy and say ?You better get on Xbox LIVE!? and kill off an hour or two. Of course with this game being a reboot for the franchise, it could attract the older fans playing it for nostalgia, or new fans who will now discover a great game from the past.

Like with previous XBLA reboots or remakes, one could expect the better graphics, and a remade soundtrack. The soundtrack will feature some of the tunes enjoyed back then, but modernized. If you?re a gaming OST person like me, Jake Kaufman (known for gaming soundtrack?arrangements/remixes) worked on the?soundtrack?for this game and there will be a listening party for it. Tomorrow, September 11th, the listening party will be on Noise Channel? at 10PM EST. The game is released this same day, so after you?ve spent the day playing it already, you can join and and be?sociable, as the man will be there to accept questions and commentate on his work on the soundtrack while streaming the soundtrack for everyone to listen. I will be attending this. The original tracks were catchy back then, so it will be interesting to hear today?s versions of some of these tracks.

Tough love?

For me personally, I?m curious to see how the remake handles the opening to the game. In the original Double Dragon, things start off?with Billy?s girlfriend being punched in the stomach and carried away. Yeah, I?m not making this up, and in one of the later remakes of the game, she actually gets gunned down. Should be interesting, and I wouldn?t be surprised if they completely changed this scene around or just flat out cut it from the game. This is of course assuming they are going off the first game. It?s a reboot though, so anything could happen.

You can expect to enjoy Double Dragon Neon, and relive those childhood memories once again, for nostalgia purposes on September 11th for PSN and September 12th for XBLA. The game will set you back 800 MSP ($10).
