The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo :: EDGE New York City

David Fincher manages to enthrall us once again with another beautiful yet disturbing film in the freshly inked American remake of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo."

When news of a remake first surfaced, the general consensus was that the Swedish film version of the acclaimed novel by Stieg Larsson was already disturbing enough and that an American version would likely take the graphic nature of the story too far. Knowing Fincher?s previous body of work including the ever-haunting "Se7en," this was a legitimate fear. But after earning five Academy Award? nominations including Best Actress for newcomer Roony Mara and winning for Achievement in Film Editing, it?s clear that David Fincher has more than shock value up his sleeve.

Also staring Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgard, and Christopher Plummer, the caliber of acting at play in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is simply unforgettable. With shots reminiscent of a Kubrick film and lighting to die for, every frame oozes beauty in a way that is becoming synonymous with the name Fincher. If you doubt the man?s talent or passion at all, listen to the audio commentary in its entirety after watching the film; in ways it?s more interesting than the film itself.

The screener made available was DVD only including audio commentary with director David Fincher. Usually the more special features the better, but just listening to someone as passionate about filmmaking as Fincher is enough to inspire a second or third viewing. On the other hand, the Blu-Ray/DVD/UltraViolet combo pack promises nearly four hours of special features - aka a film nerd?s wet dream.

If rape, revenge, and mystery do it for you or just brilliant filmmaking, don?t hesitate; go get "tatted up" today.
