Yeager's softball teams win tournaments in Redmond and Montana ...

The Yeager's over 60 and over 65 men's slow-pitch softball teams each won tournaments last week.

The over 65 team took first place in Redmond by defeating Tukwila 65s 15-12 in the championship game. Leading Yeager's was Bud Turner who batted .880, followed by Tad Eversole (.850), Joe Franco (.833) and Dave Hare (.739). Tom Shaw and Turner hit two home runs while Hare, Richard Fink, Franco and Ed Wilson each had one home run.

The over 60 team took first place in Missoula, Mont. Yeager's took first place after defeating Great Falls, Mont., 24-23 in the championship game. Yeager's scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the victory. Leading Yeager's was Patrick Jensen, who batted .905 and Jay Brack who batted .789, followed by Tim Cordial (.778), Jim Norris (.762), Dave Hare (.750) and Ray Wilson (.722). Fred White had four home runs while Norris and Brack each had one home run.

The Yeager's Ferndale Senior Softball Tournament will be held Sept. 8-9 at Conoco Field next to Pioneer Park. There will be 26 teams from Washington State and British Columbia participating.

SKI TO SEA NEARING DECISION ON TIMING COMPANY

Ski to Sea organizers expect to have an announcement of what company will be hired soon to be the timing company for the 2013 race.

The timing company hired to time the 2012 race had one timing device fail and one get damaged, which made the data unreliable or incomplete. Ski to Sea organizers decided to change companies after the race and are in the stages of finding the best timing company, according to a newsletter released by Race Director Pete Coy.

Registration for the 2013 Ski to Sea Race will open in late September.

FAIRHAVEN RUNNERS WATERFRONT 15K NEXT WEEK

The Fairhaven Runners Waterfront 15K is coming up on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Registration is open through Sept. 6 for the 9.3-mile road and trail course along Bellingham Bay. The non-profit event helps support Bellingham Parks and Recreation.

The race will fearture running shirts and chip timing, as well as a post-race celebration and awards ceremony.

Pre-registration is $25 and available online at cob.org/services/recreation/races/fairhaven-15k.aspx, the Fairhaven Runners & Walkers store and Bellingham Parks and Recreation office on Cornwall Avenue. Registration is capped at 1,000 participants.

WHATCOM HUMANE SOCIETY GOLF TOURNEY ON THURSDAY

Entries are still available for the Golf Tournament to Benefit Whatcom Humane Society, which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

The format will be a two-person scramble with pre-registered check-in and event-day registration at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

SAINTS AND SINNERS TOURNAMENT NEXT MONTH

The Saints and Sinners Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

The format is four-man teams competing in a scramble match with a 10 a.m. shotgun tee time.

The cost is $100 per player and includes 18 holes of golf, free practice facility, prizes for top three teams, golf carts and refreshments after the match.

BLAZERS HOCKEY CLUB LOOKING FOR HOST FAMILIES

The Bellingham Blazers Junior A Tier III Hockey Club is looking for host families for the upcoming season.

The club will welcome 20-plus players that range in age from 16 to 20 years old.

Host families are expected to provide a private bedroom and closet, available food and caring home atmosphere. A monthly stipend of $300 is provided as well as season tickets for the family.

HUNT FINISHES 10TH AT AMATEUR TOURNAMENT

Bradley Hunt of Bellingham finished 10th at the Pacific Northwest Men's Amateur Public Links Championship on Aug. 26 at the Links Golf Club in Post Falls, Idaho.

Hunt shot a two-round score of 150 (76-74) at the par-73 course. Derek Bayley of Rathdrum, Idaho, won in a playoff after shooting a 145.

HOLES-IN-ONE

There were two holes-in-one at Raspberry Ridge recently: Russ Angus of Bellingham had a hole-in-one on Aug. 22 on the 170-yard No. 9 hole. Angus used a driver. Daniel Scott of Langley, B.C., had a hole-in-one on the 135-yard No. 3 hole and used a 7-iron.

Tim Carpenter had a hole-in-one on Aug. 25 at Bellingham Golf & Country Club. Carpenter aced the 125-yard No. 8 hole and used a 9-iron.
